Chicago Industrial Corridor Senior Pictures Photoshoot | Tess
A beautiful hidden gem. That’s what we think when we think of Tess. We first met Tess and her mom, Kelly, during our in-studio consultation. They were referred to our Chicago Senior Pictures Photography studio by a friend within the US Synchronized Skating community to which our family has been a member for the past decade. During our consultation, Tess was rather reserved with her requests and comments. It’s not unusual to meet with high school seniors whom are unsure to what they envision for their senior pictures ideas. It’s normal and the reason we go through our creative process to identify elements of interest. Tess mentioned the desire to be in an urban city setting for her senior photos background setting.
As we do with many of our senior photoshoots, we scout locations that will provide us with the desired elements to create unique imagery for our clients. For Tess, this led us to Chicago’s Industrial Corridor. We subscribe to the philosophy of always having a backup plan especially for on-location photoshoots. If you have not read it before, we highly recommend reading “Top Tips for Senior Photos Without the Headaches”. Reason being, when we arrived to our primary photoshoot location, it was occupied by other humans, and was not available for our photoshoot. Fortunately, we had a backup location that end up providing us more elements that helped create some gorgeous portraits. When it comes to a senior pictures location, it does not always have to be on a mountain top with an amazing sunset. Instead, we think of natural or made elements that can compliment the scene and drive the focus onto our senior.
As previously stated, Tess is a beautiful hidden gem. Even though she was quiet and reserved during the studio consultation, she was just the opposite when our camera focused on her. Upon arriving on location, Tess’s energy came alive, and it never faded throughout the entire photoshoot. As we shifted from one creative element to the next, and one outfit look to the next, Tess continued to bring a natural energy that was infectious. Usually, it’s the photographer who motivates the subject, but this was not the case. To add, we were shooting in temperatures in the high 30s. But no one could tell by Tess’s presence throughout.
By the way, Tess invited her best friend, Jennifer, to the photoshoot, and to get in on the action for a few “beyond our control” shots. We asked Jennifer to whisper into Tess’s ear. It appears that Jennifer’s whispering technique is not her strongest ability. That’s okay, we love the action that followed.
